Welcome to the section that never was. Originally, this section was to be the obligatory "links" page. While employed at my previus job, I was a regular lurker of The Warren Ellis Forumand for a time I continually found amusing and bizarre links which I would share with my friends. I figured, as long as I was unemployed, I might as well put those links all in one place.

The funny thing is, it never happened. Because I was now spending much of my online time looking for jobs and writing cover letters, I actually visited the WEF less and less. And when I did go, I found that the vogue of massive link posting seemed to have faded. Too busy and too lazy to search on my own, this section remained empty for the entire duraction of my unemployment.

So, it is with complete irony that, as I am once again working, I actually do something with this part of MUL. I've tired to keep it in theme with the website.

Enjoy.

WebMedia Inc. This is the website for my old job. I worked there just under four years as a New Media analyst. I started as an assistant, became the Senior analyst when business was so good that they hired assistants to work for me, and was pretty much just taking up space by the time they finally let me go.

ProfitPlantation. Webmedia was a very specialized internet advertising agency. This site was the company's bread-and-butter by the time I left. It should give you a good idea of what kind of specialized advertising we did. If you're under 18, you may want to get your parents permission before clicking.

The New York State Deparment of LaborThis was the website I went to once a week to file for my unemployment. It was very simple and took about five minutes of time. there's probably some very valuable information on this site, expecially if you worked in New York State, but I never used it for more than filing for my check.

Monster.com This was the first job site I registered with. I used it fairly regularly, and some of the jobs I applied to on this site did lead to interview. Two or three, I think.

Hotjobs.com Hotjobs became my main source for job opportunities when Unemployed. I found it to be superior to Monster both in terms of interface, features,, and sheer number of job opportunities. The one thing I didn't like, though, was how often the same jobs would be repeated over and over again. though this may have benefitted both Hotjobs and the companies who repeated their ads, it was constantly frustrating to see over 100 new job entries only to realize nearly half of them were jobs I already applied to.

FlipDog.com This is an interesting site. Whereas places like Monster and Hotjobs provide a place for employers to place ads, Flipdog actually goes to company websites, finds the postions posted there, and links that section on their site. The result is FlipDog offers positions that may not be advertised anywhere else. On the downside, their site is updated only once or twice a week, and I rarely found anything to apply to that fit me. But I always liked the idea of it...

The Warren Ellis Forum This once fantastic forum will be closed by October 2002. Even during my unemployment, the place was different from its height as forum for intelligent, off-center people to converse about politics, science, current events, pop-culture, and, of course, comicbooks. To leanr about Warren ellis himself, check out his site here.

A Dent in the Tori Amos Net Universe More commonly known as "The Dent", this site would be the best place to go to to learn the latest on my favorite singer, Tori Amos.

Rush.com If you visted my site during it's active time, then you would know that I featured a countdown to both the day of Rush's new album in May 2002 and the ir concert I went to in July. This is their main site.

Peaceable Kingdom: A Rush ForumThis is the Rush Forum where I hang my virtual hat. Often referred to as Just Another Analog (JAA for short--the screen name for myself at another Rush Forum I no longer visit) you can find me posting under my true name.

Lo Dan The company that, for better or worse, ended my unemployment. I work in their Purchasing department, ordering fiber optic cable, couplers, connectors, and just about anything else the company needs to keep functioning. It's utterly unrelated to my previous experience at WebMedia; but then again, I didn't really have much advertising analysis experience when WebMedia hired me so at least I'm keeping the tradition alive.

Emerson This is the website of the national conglomerate that owns Lo Dan. Yes. I may be employed at Lo Dan, but in reality, I'm working for The Man. Technically, Lo Dan is owned by Emerson Network Power, but you'll have to go to their site to see how it all fits together. This mega-corporation stuff always makes my head spin.
